Our Mediators
Our mediators come from a variety of professional backgrounds and all are trained by National Family Mediation, are members of the UK College of Family Mediators and are recognised, by assessment, by the Legal Services Commission.
The mediator is there to assist you to work to reach agreement with your former partner. This does not mean 'agree or else!' nor will the mediator try to talk you into something you may not want.
Mediators are neither Judges nor arbitrators.
They do not say:
- 'if I were you ...'
- 'you must ...'
- 'you must not ...'
- 'this is best/worst ...'
Mediators do not give advice but can give you information about legal, financial, insurance, pension issues. They can also give you information about counselling and therapy resources.
Mediators do say:
- 'have you thought of?'
- 'would you like to examine this option?'
- 'how do you think this would affect the children?'
- 'does this seem fair?'
Mediators are impartial, they are not for you nor against you [they might represent to you the needs of your children]
Mediators give each of you the chance to be heard and have your views taken into account. |
